Shifting the paradigm

Things get stinkier by the day in the old j-biz. My peeps in Raleigh are getting hammered again. And things are equally weird in Portland. So, I've decided to have some fun here.

Welcome to Anne's Advice Column: How to survive as a reporter and not lose your mind. Let's take the first question:

Hey you: What makes you think you know so much? I know all about you, and your track record leaves plenty to be desired.

Dear Desired: True enough. Yet having a track record in picking a losing game should count for something. Look, journalism is a fool's paradise -- you get to delude yourself with the notion that you're actually doing some good, when in fact, you're just trying to keep body and soul together. I know plenty about that: 27 years of this madness. So take a tip from me: Chin up, old sport. Things can and will be worse . . . but then, this too shall pass.
